Turning Trash into Treasure

This year National Recycling Week ran from the 13th to 19th of November, 2023 and as always, our early education centres participated and used this event as a wonderful tool to educate the children in our care.

Established by Planet Ark in 1996, National Recycling Week is one of Planet Ark’s flagship campaigns and every year aims to educate and empower people to do the right thing when they’re at the bin.

This is a week to serve as a reminder to all Australians that “waste isn’t waste, until it’s wasted.” Each year, National Recycling Week sets out to empower Australians to make our country a greener one.

Reducing our waste not only keeps valuable materials out of landfill it also benefits the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In this blog, we are delighted to bring you some of the fun activities our centres undertook during National Recycling Week this year!

Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten Holmview
Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten Holmview were donated a plethora of old magazines. In true National Recycling Week style, they reused these magazines as a way for their Junior Kindy class to explore their fine motor skills through a cutting experience. Whilst cutting out various images in the magazines, the children also saw letters on the pages which expanded their knowledge and awareness of literacy.

Imagine Childcare & Preschool Ballina
The Preschool class at Imagine Childcare & Preschool Ballina utilised materials from home to create some amazing recycled art masterpieces. These incredible recycled creations were then proudly put on display for everyone to appreciate.

Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten Jensen
Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten Jensen celebrated National Recycling Week in style by creating (and wearing) sustainable costumes from recycled resources from around the centre.  Once completed, they held a recycled dress up parade – fashion catwalk style!

Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten Marsden
To extend on what they had already learnt during National Recycling Week, the Pre-Kindy children at Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten Marsden engaged in an activity where they had to determine which items are able to be recycled. The children were able to extend their learning and knowledge on sustainable practices with this activity.

Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten West End
During National Recycling Week, the Kindergarten class at Imagine Childcare & Kindergarten West End engaged in a construction project by building their own transport vehicle from recycled materials. The children were supplied with various items from the art trolley along with recycled bits and pieces. Utilising glue or tape, they creatively constructed these components to make vehicles.

Through all these fun and creative activities, the children explored the concept of reduce, reuse, recycle!
